Tom Antion: Linking Strategies

Little known way to build links

I first learned of this little-known and sneaky way to build some incoming links from Michelle Macpherson. I bought an ebook she sells on this technique. I don’t feel that this is a super long term solution, but it could be. I’m talking about creating your own toolbar for your website that people can download and install in their browser. Basically you are creating a piece of software…..and before you freak out I’m NOT talking about some complicated piece of software that takes months of programming time. I’m talking about a simple tool bar that you can create in about 10 minutes with free software.

The idea here is that since you “technically” own a piece of free software that you are willing to give away, you qualify to list this software at the many free software directories on the web and get a link back from them. This idea hasn’t been overused like the regular website directory link building technique that is no longer any good.

You put the toolbar on your website and then the free software directories link back to that page on your site and you get credit for an inbound link.

Tom Antion: Specific Copywriting Techniques

WAYS TO BE SPECIFIC WITH COPY

Don’t write that your Success Wand for doctors has made many doctors more successful in life and in business.

Write: 97% of the doctors who use the Success Wand twice a week report their income has gone up by at least 32 percent.

Instead of writing, “We have over 1000 satisfied customers” write “We have 1119 satisfied customers in 18 countries.”

Make your testimonials specific too. Don’t use a testimonial that says, “Tom was really liked by our salespeople.” Use one that has specific results like this one, “After Tom’s seminar on Creative Use of Email our sales force contacted 37 % more people in 18 % less time which resulted in 12 contracts we would have never landed. — Now that’s productivity.”

Be specific in your copy and watch your sales soar.

Tom Antion: 5 Tips For Getting Better Recordings

· Record in a room with lots of clutter (this is perfect for me hahaha). This reduces echoes and harsh sounding sound.

· Unplug your phones so they don’t ring in the middle of your recording (although you can go back to your last sentence and record over the ringing using your Sound Forge software)

· Turn off your air conditioner/heater. The background noise may be heard on your recording.

· If you have lots of street noises you may want to record in your basement or at a time when there is the least traffic.

· Some people get a long cord for their microphone and sit in the doorway to their closet. Talking toward the hanging clothes makes a really good dead space with no echoes.

Tom Antion: “Best Of” Products

“Best Of” products are really easy to produce because the really hard work of creating the individual products in the first place has already been done. You simply repackage the work.

I’m in the process right now of creating several “Best Of” products. The first one I’m creating comes from all the work I’ve done over the past 4 years publishing “Great Speaking” Ezine. I’ll get at least five new products out of this. Each product will be based on one of the regular four sections of the ezine and the fifth product will be a package deal with all the sections included.

Here are the products I’ll get from “Great Speaking”:

The Best of “Great Speaking” Quick Tips
The Best of “Great Speaking” Advanced Tips
The Best of “Great Speaking” Humor Tips
The Best of “Great Speaking” Marketing Tips
Get em all for one special price!
I’ll get even more products from the many audio tapes I have.

I haven’t even figured out all the combinations I can do yet, but here is a brief stab at it:

The Best of Tom Antion’s Media Marketing
The Best of Tom Antion’s Speaking Tips
The Best of Tom Antion’s Internet Marketing Tips
and it can go on and on.

Then I can make the best of my Ebooks, CDs etc. This could go on all next year if I wanted it to.

The idea here falls back into my regular product strategy. Keep producing products that sell on their own and then bundle them together in different ways to keep them alive and fresh and cranking income for you.

Tom Antion: Blonde Jokes

How are a Budweiser beer bottle and a Blonde alike? They are both empty from the neck up.

Why does a Blonde keep empty beer bottles in her fridge? They are for those who don’t drink!

What do you call a dead Blonde in a closet? 1984 hide and seek champ.

How did the Blonde die ice fishing? She got ran over by the Zamboni.

Why did the Blonde stare at a can of frozen orange juice? Because it said concentrate.

Why was the Blonde proud for finishing a puzzle in only six months? The box said “2 to 4 years!”

What did the Blonde say when she found out she was pregnant? “I wonder if it’s mine?”

Why do Blondes always smile during lightning storms? They think their picture is being taken.

Why do Blondes have “TGIF” written on their shoes? Toes Go In First.

Why shouldn’t Blondes have coffee breaks? It takes too long to retrain them.

Two Blondes observed in a parking lot trying to unlock the door of their Mercedes with a coat hanger. Linda: “I can’t seem to get this door unlocked!” Sylvie: “Well, you’d better hurry up and try harder, its starting to rain and the top is down!”

How does a Blonde change a light bulb? She holds the bulb in the socket and waits for the world to go around.

Tom Antion: Strange Occurrences

OK, OK, I know I’ve been preaching for years the fact that you
should always use humor to make a point in a presentation. Well
sometimes I don’t do that at all.

Sometimes I might just do something to create a buzz. — Just to
give people something to talk about after they leave my
presentation. These things I do easily could be used to make a
point if I wanted to, but I don’t always want to.

HERE’S AN EXAMPLE:

Do you think you might tell someone about it if you saw me speak
and you witnessed with your very own eyes a handkerchief flying
100 feet across the meeting room right into my hand?

You can make that happen for about $80.00

Not that there is any point here, but I do need a reason that the
handkerchief decided to fly over to me. I set that up by saying,
“It seems to be getting a little hot in here.” Now it makes sense
for me to summon a handkerchief to wipe my brow. I then put it in
my lapel pocket and continue as if nothing happened.

I don’t really continue . . . I pretend to continue until people
start yelling, “How’d you do that?” I respond as if I don’t know
what they are talking about and play that out for a while. I
never do tell them.

HERE’S ANOTHER ONE:

How about pouring water on someone’s head and they don’t get wet?
You can do that too for about ten bucks.

Am I going to tell you how the above things are done? Absolutely
not! Someone from the magician’s union would kill me. You can
however, take this article to a magic shop and tell them you want
to be able to do these things and they will sell you the
appropriate equipment / supplies. Once you’ve purchased, then you
have the right to know how it works. That’s the way it works with
magic. Don’t go into the store and ask them how to do this,
because they won’t tell you. YOU MUST PURCHASE FIRST and there
are no refunds, so be prepared to either go through with these
tricks or throw them in a drawer.

I will tell you, that these two tricks take minimum practice, but
they DO TAKE SOME PRACTICE. Don’t go off and try to use them in a
presentation the moment you get them or you’re guaranteed to mess
up. — and messing up the water trick will get YOU in hot water
with the person you just soaked. 🙂

Tom Antion: Audio Failure

Wouldn’t you know it? I just got my laptop back from getting
fixed because it was locking up.
That problem was fixed
beautifully, but the shop must have done something to mess up the
headphone / audio output jack which I never thought to check.

I set up my seminar and plugged my external speaker / amplifier
into the headphone jack as I had done a hundred times before.
Terrible static came out of my external speakers. I tried
different cables and nothing would fix the static.

The fix I had to use was to put a microphone next to the tiny
speakers of the laptop which were working fine. This little trick
was enough to save the day.

In fact, this is a handy trick in many situations when you think
you are going to be able to hook a tape player or some other
audio device into the main sound system, but can’t.

It’s also handy if it’s just not worth the trouble to hook into
the main sound system to listen to a brief audio clip.

I’ll also remind you that I am a big advocate of handheld
microphones. Being able to either hold or lay a microphone close
to a speaker is yet another reason I like them. This trick would
be a real hassle with a clip on microphone.
